Today’s Foodie Friday will be about my (current) favorite kitchen gadgets!
Are there things in the kitchen that you absolutely cannot live without?
For those of you who know me, I own many different kitchen knick knacks. It’s insane. But I love to cook and I love exploring new ways to cook and sometimes new gadgets really help spice things up.
I have a giant list and I’m going to share a few of them with you today. I won’t share appliances though (i.e. like a Kitchen Aid Mixer—because if you own one, you will never go back to hand-mixing anything), perhaps in another post. We’ll keep this post on the simple spectrum.
A lemon and/or a lime press. We use a ton of lemons and limes each week for cooking and flavoring. Juicing by hands just sucks, not to mention how much it hurts if you have a cut on your fingers or hand. Ugh, makes me cringe thinking about it. With this mechanism, you can get every ounce of liquid out of your lemons and limes without dropping seeds into your dishes! Because raise your hand if you’ve ever taken a bite of your food just to bite really hard into a seed? * This girl…and it’s not fun at all.
A rice sifter—it makes washing your rice easier and you don’t lose any grains to the garbage disposal. A standard sifter will do the job, but this tiny little thing makes it easy to clean and store. I bought mine online years ago from a beauty supply store that used to sell little trinkets for home and kitchen. They no longer carry it and I wasn’t able to find it on Amazon. However, I did find this similar version through Google. Please note I’ve never shopped on this website before, but noticed they had 40 reviews on the item.
A meat chopper—mine is from The Pampered Chef off Amazon. We use a lot of ground meat in this household and sometimes breaking it apart on the pan with a spatula doesn’t provide the best results—especially for leaner meats like ground turkey or ground chicken.
A pan scraper. Mine are from Lodge and is meant for cast iron pans, but let me tell you…they work wonders on just about any pan. They are durable and will not scratch your nonstick or enameled pans. Save your sponges!
I know I said I won’t mention appliances, but I just have to mention a small one—get yourself a mini chopper! I mostly use it to chop up ginger and large amounts of garlic—like for my cilantro lime pork bowls. The link above is for a newer model than the one I have.
Last item on the list is something you never really thought you needed — a Ziplock bag stand. Before I purchased a Food Saver to vacuum seal the meats I use for my sous vide, I used Ziplock bags. Do you ever run into the issue of needing to put something in a Ziplock bag, but one hand is holding the item and the other hand is trying it’s best to keep the bag open all the while trying your best to not get anything on the seal? Yeah…this is a complete game changer for sure. Now that I’ve gotten into baking my own sourdough, this stand makes pouring our my discards so much easier and essentially hands free! Thank me later 😉
OXO Good Grips Precision Pour Glass Oil Dispenser. This. Is. Great! You can use it for oils and vinegars. I mostly use it to store the oils I use the most: avocado, olive, and corn oils. They do not leak at all and they have the smoothest and most controllable pour from the spout! Definitely does not make a mess at all. I’ve tried many oil dispensers over the years and this one takes the medal for sure!
OXO Good Grips Pop Storage Containers. I recently invested into these containers to transform my kitchen and let me tell you—you will never go back to any other type of containers!
I love food and I love cooking and baking. So I love exploring new things for the kitchen—it keeps me intrigued. While some may think I’m hoarding a bunch of appliances (maybe I’ll share that with you in a post one day) for such a small kitchen (yes, I’m at a point where I think no kitchen will ever be big enough to store everything), I’d like to call myself well-rounded. Constantly finding new ways (and things) to spice up the kitchen is what I do best.
I hope this inspires your to embrace your favorite kitchen gadgets or to explore some you may have forgotten about in your drawer! I’m always looking for new ideas so feel free to share your favorites in the comments!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
